READ THIS PARTThis weeks thought is about Personal Revelation.
First, I would like to explain the difference between Doubts and Having Questions.
"Doubting is not synonymous to having questions. Doubting is rejecting truth" (Sister Sheri Dew, "Will You Engage in the Wrestle")
Doubting is having recieved a personal witness from the Holy Ghost that something is true and then rejecting that personal witness.
Having questions is how we grow spiritually! Having questions is what allows the Holy Ghost to witness to us that something is true. It is only through questions that we can even recieve personal revelation and progress.
Personal revelation is a requirement for spiritual survival these days. We know this already; our beloved President Nelson has made it quite clear that this is the case.
"If all you know is what you see with your natural eyes and hear with your natural ears, then you will not know very much" (President Boyd K. Packer)
Dont be content with just intellectual knowledge. Intellect alone simply cannot produce a testimony. Seek personal revelation! It is in those moments where we have questions that God is giving us an opportunity to recieve answers for ourself! It pains me when people leave the church because they have questions. Those very questions are opportunities that God has given us to engage in a wrestle with Him! A key truth of the Plan of Salvation is that we don't know everything on purpose! I truly believe that people who leave the church don't fully understand the Plan of Salvation.
"God's Plan of Salvation is the wrong thing to be wrong about! No error could be more enormous or more Everlasting in its consequences!" (Gary B Sabin)
His Plan allows us to progress. That is why He created this beautiful earth, gave us bodies and allows us to encounter hardship.
So how do we do it? How does receiving Personal Revelation work?
I encourage you all to increase your understanding of your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Once you understand your Noble birthright and His purpose for you here on earth, everything becomes so much easier. No one likes following rules they don't understand from people they have never met! So meet your Heavenly Father and your Savior. Seek to understand them. Once they see you are willing to recieve, they will give:) We can't receive (or even desire to receive) revelation from people we have never met.
Search the scriptures. Don't just read them, search them. Pray fervently to know! Go to the temple and ask. All these things become so much easier when we have an understanding of our relationship with God.
