What is faith?

Hebrews 11: 1
Now faith is the substance [assurance] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

I listened to a BYU devotional that totally change my perspective on faith:

The Power of your Words by Craig Manning

Here is the concept:

If you believe you are a good athlete, then you will work hard, go to practice and put in the time and effort to be a good athlete!

On the other hand, let's say you believe you are a bad student. You might always go to class, but because you don't believe you are a good student, you will not become one. You will not take the action/do the work required to do well in school.

Its clear by these examples how tied our actions are to our faith!

Take the man sick with palsy for example:

Mark 2: 4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

They saw the crowds of people--to someone with no faith it would have been easy to give up and think it was "impossible" to get to Jesus.

But not this man's friends!

They believed so assuredly that Jesus could heal this man that they did someone a faithless person would never have thought of doing--go through the roof!

Faith will determine our behavior! I truly believe that with 信心有辦法 (with faith there is a way). As we have faith in Jesus Christ, we will never run out of ideas! We will take action to get to the end, to Him.

早安~

Ministering vs Administering:

Our salvation is dependent on the intent of our hearts. We must have pure motives!

Alma is a great example of how to have love as the motive:

Alma 31:

32 O Lord, wilt thou comfort my soul, and give unto me success, and also my fellow laborers who are with me—yea, Ammon, and Aaron, and Omner, and also Amulek and Zeezrom, and also my two sons—yea, even all these wilt thou comfort, O Lord. Yea, wilt thou comfort their souls in Christ.

    1. --> He prays for people specifically by name!

33 Wilt thou grant unto them that they may have strength, that they may bear their afflictions which shall come upon them because of the iniquities of this people.

 2. --> He prays for the strength to bear afflictions, instead of "asking amiss" for the removal of trial.

35 Behold, O Lord, their souls are precious, and many of them are our brethren; therefore, give unto us, O Lord, power and wisdom that we may bring these, our brethren, again unto thee.

  3. --> He sees people as souls of an omniscient Father in Heaven.

These steps can help us avoid falling into our own personal pride cycle--doing the right things for the wrong reason (pride). This helps us 'retain a remission of our sins' and always be filled with the love of God.

This is especially important in missionary work because the minute we fall into the personal pride cycle--seeking KIs, approval from others etc--God can no longer use us as an instrument in his hands.

小心一點,慢慢走~ (Be careful and walk slowly)

"Don't get in my way"

-Elder David L. Buckner

During stake conference, Elder Buckner shared an experience where he doubted the revelation he had recieved from God. He recieved an impression later that chastized him, saying that if he doubts the revelation he receives, he is getting in the way of the Lords work.

When we trust revelation, we are more able to be instruments in Gods hands!

Isaiah 64:8
8 But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

I have recommitted to 固定 (Fixed, determined) vocal prayer this week--here is what me and Sister Linford decided as steps for a meaningful prayer:

1. Enter into thy closet (Matthew 6:6)
2. Imagine yourself kneeling at the throne of God (Hebrews 4:16)
3. Give Glory to God (psalm 95:2)
5. What lack I yet? (Ask questions, seek guidance, ask for blessings)

Literally imagining yourself at the throne of God has changed my prayers. Its nice to remember that our voices are literally heard in the courts above.

Having a deeper relationship with my Heavenly Father means so much to me :)

再見!
