周四 (Week 4) - October 28, 2024 - MTC

Highlights:

     -我們 got to go to a Bonner family concert actually insane  

     -completed a full week in Chinese!

     -我們 helped the new missionaries come in <333

     -got told my Chinese accent is really good from some Taiwanese elders (they are very kind)

     -got a chess game in 

     -taught a lesson in 中文

     -they put all the Christmas lights up !!

     -met Karl D Hirst from the seventy

     -sang at church!

Thoughts:

     THIS ONE CRAZY SO 專心！

This is my logical explanation as to why time means nothing to God:

     As we get older, years become smaller fractions of our lives. When we are 5 years old, a year is 1/5 of our life but when we are 30, a year is 1/30 of our lives. God's life is infinite so his fraction is 1 over infinity --> that equals zero! I love when I get to understand the gospel from a logical standpoint.

    Anyways the spiritual part of this is that because time means nothing to God I imagine reading his words (in the scriptures) is like Him speaking to us in the present. Everytime we read we get to hear Him speak to us in real time!! Pretty cool！！！！（很棒！！！！）

周三 - Week 3 - October 21, 2024

 你們好！！(Hello Everyone!)

Updates!

     -started chinese immersion finally!!

     -got priesthood blessings from the elders!!

     -devo by the one and only Elder Utchdorf

     -went to the temple 

     -我從猶他州來。我喜歡唱歌和分享耶穌基督的福音。我知道神愛你們！！(I'm from Utah, I love singing and sharing 

         the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know God loves you!)

Thought:

Conversion is constant. Simply having a testimony or knowledge of truth is not conversion. There is no point at which you can say you are converted because it takes constant effort! Laman and Lemuel were not converted even after seeing angels and witnessing the power of Nephi's faith. Keystone testimony building moments are simply not enough. We have to intentionally choose to be converted every day.

ANOTHER THOUGHT:

     

 The gift of tongues is so real! My ability to learn and understand Chinese is not my own. I can read way more characters than I thought I could. I can memorize things in Chinese with far more ease than my own abilities would usually permit.

周二 (Week 2) - October 14, 2024

 你們好！！(Hello Everyone)

UPDATE:

• 我的中文很不好 (it won't let me type in traditional I apologize) (My chinese is bad)
• 不客氣！(You're welcome)
• Went to the temple!!!
• God teaches me things and expands my knowledge of His gospel every day!!!!
• My district is 非常好 (Very good) we get along a little too well (what can I say~~)
• Day 1: Got thrown up in in the Devotional (很不好) (Very bad)
• 我喜歡唱歌!! (I love singing)
• My teachers are 非常好!! (Very good)
• My companions are absolutely hilarious

The truth of the matter is I am a studious soul. The more I read and study the more I want to read and study!!! God knows this about me even better than I do and He is showing me things about myself every single day. He has a perfect knowledge of who I can become and I feel He is slowly helping me see it. 一步一步！(step by step

Thought:

Obedience is a Godly attribute. In order to become as He is and become the kind of person that can dwell in His presence with joy we must practice the art of obedience. Christ could not have performed His infinite Atonement without perfect obedience. 

3 Nephi 11:11 --> "...I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning". 

As I come to understand Him better I am realizing the power harnessed by acting obediently.

P.S. (By Lily's Mom)  Lily is in a trio with Sister Holmes (from South Africa) and Sister Christensen (from Eagle Mountain). There is one other companionship of Sisters in her District and a trio of Elders. She is the only one going to Taiwan. All 7 others in her district are going to Mandarin speaking missions in the US, Canada and England.

週一！(Week 1) October 7, 2024 - Home MTC

 你們好! Hello everyone!

My forlorn days of home MTC have come to an end. Here is my honest review:

• I am destined to succeed in groups of three
• Going to bed at a reasonable hour is indeed possible
• I love my family so very much
• And I absolutely love being a missionary!

Overall: 7/10

The best part was definitely listening to conference at home for the last time! Here are some of my insights:

"Is God number one?". 

-My study journal

There's a lot to worry about as a young adult in this age of the world. What a blessing it was to be reminded that I already know what is most important! I don't have to discover that or find it for myself; the Gospel has already provided the crowning jewel that needs to be the centerpiece of my life. A rededication of my life to Christ is a a daily effort. I want to live up to the Trust He puts in me to share His gospel. "Don't sell your birthright for a mess of pottage" -Brad R. Wilcox

On a less serious note—I love my companions! My first day I was informed that my OG companion was in the wrong district and wasn't actually my companion. It was certainly a day of much uncertainty. Now I am in a trio with Holmes姐妹和玉姐妹! (Sister Holmes and Sister Christensen <3). We have so much in common its unreasonable and completely a message from God that He knows me personally! (James, Paul and Matthew—New Testament baddies IYKYK) 

I feel like learning Chinese is helping me re-learn the gospel. I grew up in the church and have always known the key truths of His doctrine but learning them in a new language is a whole new perspective. It is truly a gift!
